Bishops Corner

Bishops Corner is situated in a quite residential road in the suburbs of St Leonards on Sea. It is a spacious house set in its own grounds and was opened in April 2000.

Bishops Corner is registered for 8 people and all service users rooms are for single occupancy. Considerable care is taken to use furniture and equipment that reflects a conventional domestic style, ensuring that service users feel truly at home.

Service users can lock their bedroom doors and secure their personal effects in their own rooms, and are encouraged to personalise their rooms and choose their own colour schemes.

The Registered manager is Sanchia Lowe.  Sanchia has been working for New Directions since 2004 and has vast care experience prior to joining our team.  Sanchia has achieved NVQ level 3 in care and also NVQ level 4 and Registered Managers Award.

Bishops Corner has a full complement of care and support workers. Staffing ratios are high in order to support service users and ensure individual needs are met.

Staff at Bishops Corner do a good job at maintaining and encouraging service users to be individuals.

The staff team are experienced in the care field and some have been with the company for a few years. All staff have mandatory training which includes PWS specific training.

At Bishops Corner we have an on site day services located in a log cabin within the grounds. This is overseen by the home manager and we employ one full time and one part time day services co-ordinator. Weekday activities provide an ever increasing range of opportunities for service users and every opportunity is taken to forge links with the local community to expand the range of activities and work placements to service users.

Registered Manager

I’m Sanchia the Home Manager for Bishops Corner.

I trained as a nurse in the early 1990’s in Brighton then I moved to London.

After having worked across the care sector for many years I moved to the South East where a chance meeting with New Directions introduced me to the complexities of  Prader Willi Syndrome. I was immediately touched by this initial encounter; the people at New Directions demonstrated compassion and a level of commitment to the service users with this syndrome that at that time I could only start to understand. These people weren’t just caring for them but changing their lives. I immediately decided that I wanted to become a part of what New Directions were doing.

I’ve been with New Directions since July 2004 and became the manager of the home in 2006 now and have achieved my NVQ level four, RMA and many other relevant qualifications. I work closely with my team and I am always seeking new ideas to enrich and enhance our service user’s lives.
