Teresa Hills
My name is Teresa Hills, I have worked for New Directions and for adults with Prader Willi Syndrome since 1999, although previously I did work for a service that catered for adults with various learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. I started as a support worker at Bishops Croft and through promotion and Bishops Corner opening, progressed to Manager. I have gained NVQ level 3 and 4 in care qualifications and the Registered Manager’s Award and I am an NVQ assessor to help my staff team gain NVQ qualifications.
I have two children and in June 2008 I returned from maternity leave to my post of Liaison Manager.
My role as Liaison Manager is constantly evolving and one of my main roles is to carry out our Induction process to any new member of staff especially if they are new to the care industry. This is a crucial part of motivating and retaining newly appointed employees. I am beginning to become more involved in the booking of training our staff may require and participating in the delivery of our in house training courses. I also take management of each of the New Directions homes when the registered manager is away ensuring all tasks and duties are carried out, and also reporting back to the manager on their return.
I am also responsible for all monthly Regulation 10 inspections on each of the homes, monitoring the service that New Directions provide to our Service Users, Health and Safety, feedback from Service Users and staff, checking paperwork and doing audits. So I am able to visit all homes on a regular basis and offer support.
On a regular basis I arrange meetings with our Day Service Co- ordinators to ensure a high quality service is being provided to our Service Users, and it is also a time where we can look for new ideas for opportunities be it of work placements, college courses, projects and so on.
