Jo Brand and Friends Charity Show

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Associtaion have arranged a fundraising evening at St Lukes Church in Chelsea on 11th October. Gayle and Mandy will be going along together with Mark and Lizzy from Bishops Lodge. Last year was a huge success and we are looking forward to another great evening.

Report and photos after the event.

PWSA Holiday

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association organised a holiday at an activity centre in the New Forest. There were 11 people with the syndrome one of whom was our own Louise. She certainly knew plently of the helpers as David Palmer and Duncan and Claire from Bishops Croft were among the team.

More details from those on the holiday to follow, plus we hope, some good photographs.

BISHOPS WAY NEWS

Well, summer - such as it was - came and went all too quickly, but there was time for a trip to the circus, Simon’s birthday, Grant’s trip to Somerset with his Mum, Ayesha celebrating Eid with her family and Lydia going to the wedding of a family friend who used to babysit her when she was a child. New Directions held it’s Fun Day at the Tin Hut and we all had a laugh playing games, sports, music and dancing. A Day Service trip to Druscilla’s is going to happen very soon, Grant will be going to Butlin’s on his long awaited holiday, Simon has started an extra day at Active Arts and Ayesha & Lydia have their one-to-ones to look forward to.

On a slightly sadder note, we said goodbye to Adam from the staff team as he moved house and found the travelling difficult. But we are looking forward to welcoming Colin to the team later this month and are sure he will fill the space Adam has left.

Note from Sue:

As most people connected with Bishops Way already know, I will not be managing the home after the end of September, but as I have a holiday booked, I have effectively left already. I am, in lots of ways, sad to be going, but I have been given the opportunity to work in a different role that will give me the chance to develop my skills in other areas, such as training. The decision was not an easy one as I am extremely proud of everything the people who live and work at Bishops Way have achieved over the three years since we opened.   The growth I have seen in the residents has been amazing and the hard work, dedication and personalities of the staff team have been hugely instrumental in supporting these fantastic results. I am certain this will continue and that everyone will make sure that the new manager will feel as confident in the continued success of Bishops Way as I do. I will miss everybody connected with New Directions and will be happy to sing it’s praises at every opportunity as I believe that the ethos and commitment to people with PWS is unprecedented. Keep up the good work guys!   Sue

We would all like to wish Sue all the best her her new role and thank her for the work and achievements she has accomplished in her time at Bishops way

SUMMER PARTY AT ‘THE TIN HUT’

On 17th August, we had one of our now famous ‘Tin Hut’ gatherings.  We were really luck with the weather, so were able to have some fun and games outside in the field, we even got Sue joining in!

Everyone was really pleased to see some visitors - there was Martin and his Mum and Dad, from Lambeth, Elizabeth’s Mum and Dad from Bournemouth and Leigh Vallance from the Prader Willi Syndrome Association UK.  For anyone who does not know, Leigh is the Chief Executive of the PWSA (UK).  This was her first visit to New Directions and she had a dreadful journey from Derby, it took 7 hours to get to Bishops Croft, so unfortunately Leigh did not have the time to see the other homes as she was keen to spend some time at the party and meet everyone.

The food went down well - thanks to Mandy from Bishops Lodge for getting that ready, and then there was some Karaoke - which always goes done well.

Anyway, everyone said they had a good time, so roll on the next one!!!
