CURRY AND QUIZ NIGHT SUCCESS

Friday 15th July was our fund-raising Curry & Quiz Night – all proceeds to the Prader Willi Syndrome Association.

The event was held at Hastings United Football Ground clubhouse and our thanks go to Dave Walters (Chairman of Hastings United) for letting us have this most suitable venue free of charge.

There were a total of 72 people in attendance, a superb curry was supplied by Flavour of India at a reasonable cost to maximise our funds, so thanks go also to them.

Our quiz master came well prepared with not just six rounds of 10 questions, but also three ‘paper based’ rounds to complete during the course of the evening.  The quiz master was Keith Boylet who also donated the quiz and his time free of charge – another person to whom we are most grateful.

The evening started at 7pm and we finished at 10.30pm (although the bar remained open for a while after that).

Our raffle was well supported and we had prizes donated from a wide range of local businesses.

The final vote of thanks has to go to all who supported us on the evening, most of whom were from the local area, but to our delight we had two people travel from Wimbledon to Hastings for the quiz (not the easiest journey on a Friday evening) so a very special thanks to Mary & Michael, we really hope you enjoyed the evening.

So, to the crux of the matter – HOW MUCH DID WE RAISE?

The total is   £555

Fabulous – THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH

Zorbing. First fundraising zorbing took place 3rd July!

A few months ago, we had never heard of ‘Zorbing’.  Now all the staff within New Directions know about it, and 6 had a go on Sunday 3rd July 2011.  There will be another, much larger group zorbing on 24th July.

If, like me, you had no idea - it seems to be a case of throwing yourself into a small opening on a very large plastic inflatable ball, then getting well and truly strapped in and being launched from the top of a steep hill and left to roll and bounce your way down to the bottom.  Apparently its ‘fun’.

Seriously, all 6 really enjoyed the experience, although some have said they will not be trying it again, and I can reveal that we could hear Sanchia screaming almost until she had reached to bottom of the hill.

The bottom line, and the important aspect of all this, was to raise more money for the Prader Willi Syndrome Association.  Once the second group have had their go and we have posted their pictures on this news section of our site, we will make sure that all the sponsors pay up and then let you know how much has been raised.

Me personally - I would rather walk the 3 peaks again than give that a go!
