My name is Grant. I live at Bishops Way.

Recently I had a one to one with my Co key worker. We went to the cinema to see Pirates of the  Caribbean then had dinner out. We had a lovely day in Brighton, seeing a Disney show. We had  a nice time, that was our day service outing.

Gone Fishing!

Malcolm Davis went fishing for the first time and has asked us to put the statement below on the website.

” I enjoyed the fishing as it gave me something interesting to do in my spare time. I cannot wait until i catch my first fish.  Id like to thank my Manager for helping me set up and be able to go fishing so quickly”

Well done Malcolm, can we have a picture next time?

THE YORKSHIRE 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE

At last the day arrived, Sanchia, Billy and Gayle travelled to North Yorkshire on Friday morning (10th June 2011).  Setting out from Hastings at 11.30am, the Sat Nav  told us we would be arriving at 5pm, we assessed that with a couple of short comfort breaks, we would be there by 5.45pm.  Oh how wrong can you be – one traffic jam after another, then driving through torrential rain and even a hail storm, we eventually arrived at our hotel at 8.30pm.  Food service finished at 9pm, so there was a bit of a panic to get everything to our rooms and back down in time to have a hearty meal for the condemned!

So, next morning we arrived at the allocated place at 0630 and started out on the walk/climb/challenge at 0700.  To say there were a lot of people would be a huge understatement.  There must have been 1000 people doing the same challenge as us (oh well, where New Directions lead, others follow!)

Easy – it was not – sense of achievement on completion – definitely – worth it for the sponsorship money – not doubt at all.  We completed in 11 hours 10 minutes, certificates to follow.  There are a few pictures below (before, during and after).

Further news to follow with the amount raised.

PWSA – OUR WAY OF LIFE – 3rd – 5th JUNE 2011

A group of 5 set off from Hastings on the morning of 3rd June to make their way to Derby for the now annual Our Way of Life conference.

In David’s vehicle were Lizzie, Steven and Ian supported by David and Sherrie.

We set off during the morning to arrive by 3.30pm.  On paper we had plenty of time but due to heavy traffic and an accident (not us!) we did not arrive until just before 5 pm.

The first night we all enjoyed numerous games of bingo, followed by a quiz.  As the evening came to a close there was disco music and time too catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

The next day it was an early start for breakfast, followed by the main conference. Lizzie, Steven and Ian went to the conference for the persons with PWS. Lizzie together with Katie from Bristol presented a piece explaining what the advisory board was and what they did. David and Sherrie went to the conference for parents and carers.

In the evening we all attended the main dinner, followed by an evening of entertainment and line dancing.  Everybody dressed up in Western outfits and had a really enjoyable time.  It was a late night with the group, retiring for bed at around midnight.

It was up for breakfast at 8.30, followed by saying goodbye to all our friends and making the return journey back to East Sussex arriving back at 1 o clock, just in time for lunch.

A big thank you to all at the PWSA for arranging this event which all the guys with PWS present were saying that it gives them a wonderful opportunity of meeting up with and exchanging views with others with their condition.

1066 Specials players receive awards.

After an energetic morning of training, the players and coaches of the 1066 specials Disability Football Club, joined by parents, carers and guests including Bexhill Mayor, Councillor Jimmy Carroll, crowded the annual meeting to hear about the progress of this very special group.

Ian, Josh and Mark from Bishops Croft and Ryan from Bishops Corner all received medals in recognition of their achievements throughout the year.

Josh received the Joe Clodd Memorial cup for the most improved player of the year.

Well done to you all.

LODGE IS A FLORIST NOW!!

The service users at Bishops Lodge were asked by The Rotary Club of Hastings to provide the flower arrangements for the tables at their Presidents night last Friday.

What a great job!!! - All the members of the Rotary Club commented on how good the flowers looked, and the service users are looking forward to being asked to do similar tasks in the future.

The pictures are of all the decorations before leaving Bishops Lodge to go to the hotel, and the other is of the top table at the hotel prior to anyone arriving.

3 PEAKS CHALLENGE - training progresses

Sanchia and Gayle (not forgetting Billy) are in the final throws of the training for the 3 Peaks Challenge.  Another mere 18 miles done last Saturday over the South Downs ion East Sussex.  It was probably the windiest day of the year, and at one time, we nearly lost Gayle over the cliffs (Sanchia has promised to try harder next time!).  Anyway - only 9 days to go.  The three intrepid adventurers are pictured below with the two lighthouses on this stretch of the South Downs in evidence.
