Personalisation Course

David attended a two day course, put on by East Sussex County Council, on Personalisation on Thursday and Friday of last week (7th & 8th October).  He said that the whole course was really useful and will update our current training around person centered planning and approaches.

David was very wary about the Personalisation agenda in relation to PWS but following the course was pleased to note that New Directions were actually already encompassing this idea within our homes.

Family visit

Stephanie (mum) and Chris (pws) visited all the New Directions Homes on Thursday 21st October 2010. Starting at Bishops Croft in Robertsbridge where they enjoyed lunch with the guys and staff of the home. It was then down to Hastings and St.Leonards were we visited Bishops Lodge, Bishops Way and finally Bishops Corner where Chris had his picture taken with the guys.

Chris was asked to email us with what he thought about his visit, what he liked and did not like. Also, which home he thought he liked best. We would like to here from mum answers to those questions independently from those of Chis.

Welcome to Way!

It has been a time for many changes since our last news item, not least of which is a very warm welcome to our newest arrival, Ayesha.  We all hope she has a long and successful stay with us. Before Ayesha moved in, we had the pleasure of Mark’s company on respite for a fun-filled couple of weeks and we hope to see him again at one of our events in the future.

We all had a lot of fun at the ‘Summer’ Fun Day at the Tin Hut, especially Tracy Scott, who was very actively involved in planning the fun and games, thank you Tracy!  It is also very nice to have Tracy back with us full time from her secondment to Bishops Lodge – welcome home……

We will be welcoming Marilou to the staff team from 27th October, who will be covering Gem’s maternity leave and Lettie to the Sleep in team.

The Care Show 2010

Wednesday 6th October, Gayle and David went off to London for the day.  Everyone thought it was a ‘jolly’, but NO – we went to The Care Show at Olympia.

This is a large event with exhibitors from all areas to do with the care industry.  Of course, many of them were of no interest to New Directions as they are aimed at the elderly care market (we are aware that several people suggested that we had gone to look for things for ourselves – cruel!)

There were many things that were relevant, including training organisations which was where David was happy chatting about the New Common Induction Standards and the replacement for the NVQ which is due to come in from January 2011 and is called the QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework).

It was a long, but useful day out of the office and hopefully we have made some contacts which will assist with training and other areas of the homes.
