Lady Butler of Saffron Walden dies, aged 101

LADY Butler of Saffron Walden, the widow of statesman “Rab” Butler, has died aged 101, she was the Patron of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association and her Grandson Josh lives at Bishops Corner. Former Conservative MP for the Saffron Walden constituency, Richard Austen Butler, was her second husband; her first, the arctic explorer Augustine Courtauld, died in 1959.
Rab Butler was one of the few British politicians to have served in the three posts of Chancellor of the Exchequer, Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary, although he was passed over for the Premiership on two occasions. He died in 1982
Lady Butler, who had four sons and two daughters and was a great-grandmother, died peacefully at her home in Great Yeldham yesterday (Wednesday February 18).
Her funeral service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden on Wednesday March 4 at 2pm.
